The groupers (Epinephelidae family) are demersal species that a vulnerable resource due to increasing fishing pressure around Reunion Island. Five of among the main exploited by commercial and recreational fisheries La Réunion Island: blacktip grouper ( Epinephelus fasciatus; Forsskål 1775), oblique-banded radiatus ; Day 1868), golden hind Cephalopholis aurantia , Valenciennes 1828), white-edged lyretail Variola albimarginata; Baissac 1953) yellow-edged louti; Fabricius 1775). From 2014 2021, total 482 individuals were caught. Body length-weight relationships showed significant relationship between length weight for all species. A literature analysis coupled with new entomological surveys conducted between 2009 and 2012 led to changes in the list of mosquito species present on the island of La Réunion. Using morphological criteria, Orthopodomyia arboricollis is replaced by Or. reunionensis. On the basis of morphometrical and genetic criteria, Culex univittatus is replaced by Cx. neavei. Cx. poicilipes, which was alread...

Population structure of Anopheles arabiensis on La Réunion island, Indian Ocean.

Anopheles arabiensis, together with Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto, are the most important vectors of human malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. The malaria situation keeps worsening, with 1 to 3 million deaths a year, and alternative strategies are needed to decrease malaria transmission intensity. In this paper, we studied the population structure of An. arabiensis from three sample sites on the r...

Failure to demonstrate experimental vertical transmission of the epidemic strain of Chikungunya virus in Aedes albopictus from La Réunion Island, Indian Ocean.

Aedes albopictus was responsible for transmission in the first outbreak of chikungunya (CHIK) on La Réunion Island, Indian Ocean, in 2005-2006. The magnitude of the outbreak on this island, which had been free of arboviral diseases for over 30 years, as well as the efficiency of Ae. albopictus as the main vector, raises questions about the maintenance of the CHIK virus (CHIKV) through vertical ...
